The aim of this article is to analyse the current situation of access to energy (in relation to SDG 7) and energy usage behaviour in households in two provinces in Cambodia, namely Pursat and Kampong Cham..
We analyse the assumption against the energy profiles on the basis of two conceptual energy models—the energy ladder and energy stacking models—in relation to energy behaviour in Cambodian households in forest rich and forest scarce provinces..
Although each individual household still operates as an independent energy consumer, mesh networks enable balancing energy needs and can dispatch power where needed—all in real time—thus providing an inexpensive solution for rural communities that lack connection to Cambodia’s electric grid..
electricity is available for almost every urban household while one-third of rural households still rely on off-grid sources particularly solar home systems and rechargeable batteries [4]. On average, approximately 13,000 new solar home systems have been installed every year since 2008 [4, 22, 23]..
As of 2019, that access had increased to 93 percent, with a large portion thanks to off-grid energy including solar home systems, solar lanterns, and rechargeable batteries. Last year, 81 percent of all households were connected to the electricity grid, and more than 97 percent of all villages were covered or in the vicinity of grid infrastructure. [pdf]
