Grid-connected wind and solar power projects may provide a supplemental source of electricity for local consumption in ways that are consistent with the environmental principles of Bhutan's development philosophy, as defined by the Gross National Happiness.
One solution is wind turbines which convert the kinetic energy of the wind into electric energy for consumption. Wind turbines recover the kinetic energy of the moving air by utilizing propeller-like blades, which are turned by wind. The power is transmitted via a shaft to a generator which then converts it into electrical energy. [pdf]

Offshore wind energy also has great potential in Germany. Wind speed at sea is 70 to 100% higher than onshore and much more constant. As of 2007, a new generation of 5 MW or larger wind turbines which are capable of making full use of the potential of wind power at sea had been developed. This made it possible to operate offshore wind farms in a cost-effective way. [pdf]

That’s according to executives from Merus Power speaking to Energy-Storage.news at Energy Storage Summit last week..
Capable of storing 100 MWh of thermal energy from solar and wind sources, it will enable residents to eliminate oil from their district heating network, helping to cut emissions by nearly 70. .
So far, battery energy storage systems (BESS) are almost the only type of energy storage that has been participating in the Finnish reserve markets. The reserve markets, except FFR, have traditionally been dominated by hydropower, but in 2021, 57 % and 6 % of energy in the hourly markets of FCR-N and FCR-D products, respectively, were procured . .
• The predominant electrical energy storage (in terms of energy capacity) built by 2040 in Finland will be battery installations. In the second place are hydrogen technologies. [pdf]
